Lamahatta, a romantic place near Darjeeling, is located at an altitude of about 5,700 feet and at a distance of 23kms from Darjeeling. Lamahatta is well connected by the Darjeeling-Kalimpong state highway. Lama in Lamahatta stands for Buddhist monk and Hatta for hut - a monk's hermitage. The main inhabitants here are tribes like Sherpas, Yalmos, Tamangs, Bhutias and Dukpas.

Lamahatta just a small village where farming and cattle rearing are the main sources of livelihood. Lamahata is surrounded on all sides of Pine and Dhupi forests and garden with panoramic views of Mt. Kanchenjungha, Tiger Hill, Namchi of Sikkim, Darjelling Town and the Rangeet river. Lamahatta has been developed as an eco-tourism place in late 2012. Specilly, it’s a paradise for honeymooners or couple who would like to spend their intimate time with nature.
